Featurette is a web application for realtors to easily create feature sheets for properties. Users can choose from a selection of professionally designed templates to create their feature sheets. The templates can be customized with the user’s branding, contact information, photos and etc. without requiring design knowledge. Featurette makes it affordable for everyone to create professional customized feature sheets.
Before we started this project, we held a Roadmap Workshop where we discussed the business plan, technical requirements, features, and user stories of the web app. In order to best understand the business opportunity, we facilitated business model canvas discovery sessions in which we dived deep into understanding the opportunity, business model, and risks associated with the project. We identified the problem, target market, unique value proposition, and the solution. Through the roadmap workshop, we planned for different phases of the project and came up with estimates for costs and the timeline of each phase.
We deemed it necessary to create some brand guidelines for Featurette. This included design elements such as fonts, color palettes, and UI design. Through this, we were able to understand the brand as a whole and correlate the connotations associated with the brand to the Featurette product itself.
After understanding the idea, we came up with a target audience and created specific personas based on that. Throughout this process, we kept the end-user in mind and also the goals of this application for our client. We incorporated the client’s vision with our insight to come up with ideas for the personas and worked closely with the client to finalize the target audience through this process.
The customer journey framework was created after the personas to understand the flow that the customer will go through when using this application. We felt that this component was necessary in order to understand the user’s pain points and to gain their perspective of the different features.
As with any project, some sample sketching is vital in creating a customized product. For this project, we created a sketch and plan of how the application will function on the web on a high level. It is extremely important to understand the flow of the application before diving deep into design especially for this project that includes a lot of complex designs. The sketches were an integral part of our project to clearly design the application before creating the wireframes.
The high-fidelity wireframes were created after the low-fidelity wireframes to implement the design aspect of the web app. The wireframes allowed our development team to have a clear idea of what the end result should replicate.
In order to achieve the scalability we needed for this project we used Google Cloud Platform. We used many different services from Google Cloud Platform including Cloud Storage, App Engine, Cloud Functions, Compute Engine. Using the Google Cloud Platform, we were able to focus on creating the app.
To be able to render the PDFs and images, we created a proprietary design language. We used technologies such as React, Redux, Dropwizard, Hibernate and many more for this project.
